State Department Expands The Mexico City Policy Broadly

On Tuesday, Mike Pompeo announced an expansion of the Mexico City policy banning U.S. aid from going to foreign groups that promote or provide abortions.

MIKE POMPEO: Pompeo says the expansion closes a loophole in the nongovernmental organizations that receive foreign aid to fund other groups that support abortion.

Mike pompeo said at a press conference, “This is decent, this is right and I’m proud to serve in an administration that protects the least amongst us.”

“This administration has shown that we can continue to meet our critical global health goals, including providing health care for women, while refusing to subsidize the killing of unborn babies,” he added.

MEXICO CITY POLICY: The policy was established by President Reagan in 1984 and then the President reinstated and expanded the policy in 2017 adding more global health assisting problems like HIV, Malaria, and maternal and child health.

To qualify for the funding, groups have to certify that they won’t perform or promote abortion as a method of family planning, even with funds from other non U.S. sources.

MIKE POMPEO: Says the State Department will no longer provide global health funding to foreign groups that financially support other organizations that provide and promote abortions.

CONCLUSION: Mike Pompeo announced an expansion in the Mexico city Policy to stop funding any foreign groups that support and provide abortions financially. Democrats believe the new expansion is even more dangerous now for women, and hiv, malaria patients. Although, the funding will only be used for serious, life threatening issues.
