Trump’s future on Facebook will be decided on Wednesday morning by an Oversight Board.
TRUMP AND FACEBOOK
If you think he doesn’t care about getting back on the platform, you are mistaken. Facebook was single-handed to the top spot for outreach Trump got back in the 2016 election. Trump understands that Facebook is where his campaign can find a massive outreach.
Trump was banned from the Social Media platform on January 7th, a day after he rallied supporters in Washington DC. Ending in a storming of the capitol. Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook believes that ” the risk is too great” to justify Trump’s shutdown. Zuckerberg cited Trump’s response to the storming at the capitol.
Facebook was one of the original places where the former President got banned; Youtube and Twitter followed after Facebook took down his account. Twitter said that the ban was permanent, but YouTube said that the suspension would be in place as long as Trump was a risk of violence and would be allowed back once that decreased.
INDEPENDENT OVERSIGHT BOARD:
Facebook announced that an Independent Oversight Board would decide if Trump is to remain off the site. The Board was created by Zuckerberg toast as a Supreme Court of sorts making hard decisions on the site. The Board was given 90 days to decide Trump’s fate but asked for an extension that leads us to this Wednesday. The Board’s decision will most likely set a precedent for other sites and others might revisit his ban if Facebook decides to keep him on the platform.
