Ilhan Omar has been in Congress for two months and Democrats are trying to look for a candidate to run against her in next year’s primary election.
SENATOR RON LATZ: Latz represents part of Omar’s district, “There’s definitely some buzz going around about it, but it’s more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they’re going to run against her or contemplate it. There’s definitely talk about people wanting someone to run against her,” he said.
ILHAN OMAR: Omar sparked an Anti-Semitism controversy in Congress during her first weeks in office. She suggested politicians who support Israel is only for financial reasons and then suggested that lobbyist push for “allegiance to a foreign country.”
Omar met with the executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, Steve Hunegs, to discuss the issue with her comments and remarks of the Jewish community.
STEVE HUNEGS: “Unfortunately, having the opportunity to speak with her about that point didn’t dissuade her making that statement,” he said. “We were appalled,” Hunegs added.
RON LATZ: Latz said Omar cannot stop insulting the American Jewish community. “I’d be pretty uncomfortable supporting Omar right now, given what I’ve learned about her since the election and given her apparent inability to stop insulting Jews,” said Latz.
CONCLUSION: Democrats want a candidate to run against Ilhan Omar but struggle to find someone who actually wants her seat in the House. Even though, Omar made anti-semitic comments on the Jewish community and The President asked her to step dow, she was never punished for it or has had to apologize for her remarks. Some say she doesn’t have to be punished for and some do agree with her and support her.
