Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal was struck down immediately in the Senate floor without any debate and she says she encouraged the Senate Democrats to vote “present” on it.
AOC: Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey drew up the deal early this year which passed in the House but failed to pass in the Republican majority Senate.
ED MARKEY: Markey had expressed how the vote went down on the Senate floor.
Markey said,”They are calling a vote without hearings, without expert testimony, without any true discussion of the costs of climate inaction and the massive potential for clean energy job creation in our country. And that is because Senator McConnell wants to sabotage the call for climate action.”
What Senator McConnell and Senate Republicans fail to understand is that the #GreenNewDeal is not just a resolution. It is a revolution.
Today’s vote won’t be the end of this debate. It is only the beginning.

THE SENATE: On Tuesday, the Senate voted down the plan 0 to 57 making it impossible for the Democratic caucus to have a majority or even have a bipartisan vote.
THE SENATE: 43 Democratic Senators voted “present” on the resolution but about 4 Democrat Senators went against the plan and voted with Republicans instead.
AOC: Ocasio-Cortez was asked why so many Democrats voted “present” on the plan she replied, “because I encouraged them to…along with others.”
AOC: AOC also mentioned Mitch McConnell played a dirty game by quickly bringing the Green New Deal on the floor without any debate on climate change first.
Because I encouraged them to vote present, along w/ others.
McConnell tried to rush the #GreenNewDeal straight to the floor without a hearing.
The real question we should be asking: Why does the Senate GOP refuse to hold any major hearings on climate change? https://t.co/de8oKOXeJf

DEMOCRATS: Most Democrats believe McConnell ‘s actions with the Green New Deal was a stunt.
Kristin Gillibrand thought the vote was a “partisan stunt.”
Today's #GreenNewDeal vote is a partisan stunt to side-step needed debate on climate action, and give Republicans cover to put oil lobby checks over our kids. I've come to expect nothing less from @senatemajldr.
I'll be voting "present." I don't play ball with bad-faith farces.

Chuck Schumer believes Republicans made “a mockery of the legislative process.”
MITCH MCCONNELL: McConnell had this to say, “The American people will see, they will see which of their senators can do the common sense thing and vote ‘no’ on this destructive socialist daydream. And they will see which senators are so fully committed to radical left-wing ideology that they can’t even vote no on self-inflicted economic ruin.”
I could not be more glad that the American people will have the opportunity to learn precisely where each one of their senators stand on the “Green New Deal”: a radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy.

The Green New Deal, my Democratic colleagues’ rallying cry: Killing off entire domestic industries. Winding down millions of jobs. Basically outlawing the only sources of energy that working-class and middle-class families can actually afford.

CONCLUSION: Once the Green New Deal was written and put in motion, it began dividing Democrats from their own party and more Republicans from Democrats but now they are all heated and accusing each other of all these different things going on in Congress and the higher courts.
