New reports state that Multiple Marines were killed and injured after an attack at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan.
On Thursday, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed ” a number of U.S. service members were killed” in an airport attack.
Multiple explosions rocked the area around the international airport in Kabul on Thursday, killing Americans and wounding a number of Afghan civilians.
Kirby also said in a statement – “a number of others are also being treated for their wounds. We also know a number of afghans fell victim to the heinous attack.” he went on to say, ” Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones and teammates of all those killed and injured.”
The attack happened near one of the gates called Abbey gate – the exact location U.S. forces have been directing Americans to go for evacuations. The explosion occurred after an ISIS militant detonated a suicide vest among a group of civilians.
Both Russians and the Taliban reported that a total of 13 people were killed in the incident. The Pentagon has confirmed that flights out of Kabul are still happening and that Thursday’s attacks will not alter the withdrawal timeline.
The U.S. Embassy has warned citizens to avoid traveling to the airfield and said that citizens at the Abbey Gate, East and North gates should leave immediately.
